What a Wonderful Weekend!

Last weekend, I did something that I've never done before.  I packed my bags and left the hubby in charge of the kiddos for a few days ~ and thankfully my mom was there to help the first day as well.

My friend Megan and I had the opportunity to attend the "Teach Them Diligently Conference" in Spartanburg, South Carolina.  I had a great time, and my family survived without me (even with Brad's much-talked-about supper of tacos and baked beans on Friday evening!), but I truly believe that I was supposed to be at this conference.

I got to hear words of wisdom from men like ~~

**Ken Hamm, founder of "Answers in Genesis" (and The Creation Museum in Kentucky), who reminded me how important it is to carefully choose a science curriculum that lines up with Genesis.  My children must have this strong foundation!

**Lou Priolo, a Biblical counselor, who had SO much to say on Biblical child training - making the scriptures a HUGE priority in the home.

** Norm Wakefield, who is the dad of my favorite blogger - Resolved to Worship (blog in my sidebar).  She has often mentioned her dad, and from what she has said, I knew I had to sit in on one of his sessions, and I am so glad I did.  He spoke on anchoring to Jesus during the storms that we can go through while homeschooling {or just parenting}.  He jokingly mentioned how we might would encounter a storm before that day was over.  Thankfully I did not - the entire weekend was "smooth sailing" ~ the storms were waiting for when I got back home, so his words were definitely not wasted on me! LOL

**And, Pam Tebow, who must have the sweetest voice ever, who was huge in reminding us all to just LOVE our children!  And, along with Mr. Priolo, she emphasized the importance of scripture memory, giving examples of how they did it and how her children are coming back to those verses throughout their lives.

An added unexpected bonus occurred away from the conference.  My friend who was with me had a cousin who lived nearby, and she graciously allowed us to stay with her and her husband for two nights.  She spoiled us rotten! ~ had delicious meals awaiting on our late night returns, as well as warm, yummy breakfasts the two early mornings before we headed out!  My room I stayed in was super cozy, and I just felt so at home.  This lady truly taught me a lot about the importance of hospitality, and if I didn't miss my family so much, I wouldn't have wanted to leave!  She taught me so much, not even meaning to.

I can't say enough how thankful I am that I was able to have this experience.  It was SO needed.  Since returning home, I think I've been given the opportunity to practice almost everything that was preached - a little overwhelming, yes!  Makes me even more thankful for the encouragement I received and the new excitement that has been sparked for our homeschool and for just being a mom!  Beforehand, I was swerving off my initial homeschooling path, and thankfully God used the conference to teach me/show me so much.  A re-fuel for this journey!
